Dr Dilip Ratnam is a Melbourne and UK trained Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. His undergraduate studies were undertaken at Monash University (BSc 1993) and Flinders University in Adelaide (BMBS 1998) followed by physician training at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. Specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology was undertaken at The Alfred, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Royal Free Hospital (London) and he was awarded his fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2005.
Dr Ratnam now works as a consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Monash Health (including the role of administrative head of Gastroenterology for Dandenong spital). Dr Ratnam's private practice involves consulting in Caulfield South and Moorabbin, and also the management of inpatients at Cabrini Malvern and Knox Private Hospitals.
Dr Ratnam manages patients with a wide variety of luminal gastroenterological conditions including Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is an experienced endoscopist. He also has a particular interest in diseases of the liver where he has multiple publications in the area of viral hepatitis and has also completed a PhD in the immunopathogenesis of Hepatitis B.
Dr Ratnam continues to be actively involved in basic and clinical research in viral hepatitis including clinical trials of new therapies.
